Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course starting July 2020

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this next Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course will take place in a virtual setting.

This course is framed around Jon Kabat-Zinn’s MBSR programme that was initially used for stress and pain management. Participants must make every effort to attend each session and commit to some home-practice (although there is much flexibility with this). To attain a certificate of attendance attendees must be present for at least 6 of the 8 sessions.

This course is aimed at helping all with general stress of today’s hectic living and promote a sense of well-being. There is plenty of evidence to support the benefits of mindfulness practice, and by taking this 8 session programme, allowing the skills you have learned to be embedded, you stand a good chance of continuing your practice independently, with confidence.

Each session will take place from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm BST. There will be a 20-30-minute comfort break during each session.

Session 3- August 6th

Session 4- August 13th

Session 5- August 20th

Session 6- August 27th

Session 7- September 3rd

Session 8- September 10th

 

This is not an online course that you can take at your leisure. The dates and times are set and you need to be present (wherever you are!) as there will be live interaction between the trainer and the group. This way, the sharing aspect of MBSR, which forms a large contribution to beneficial outcomes of the training, will not be lost.

Hopefully, the pluses of this approach will reduce a barrier for people taking part, as you can literally be anywhere and participate.

For those who have thoughts about the possibility of going on to do teacher training, this course would be acceptable to attend the training on March 2021. Usually a year is thought to be an adequate amount of time to go on to take teacher training. In these unusual circumstances, there may be exceptions made, depending on the individual’s practice and circumstances.

What you will need for the training: a laptop/ computer/ smartphone/ desk top, a quiet space for 2 and half hours for each session, a yoga mat, blanket, cushion, notepad, and pen, some refreshments at hand for the comfort break.

Notes and hand-outs will be provided online throughout the training. A ‘screen check’ will take place before the start date of the course, to avoid any set-backs with the set up for the start of the sessions. This date and time will be arranged between the group and organised via the trainer.

The cost of the course is £110 per person, which is at a reduced rate to assist toward difficult times people may be facing at this time.
